At Britain Yearly Meeting this year, I led a community singing session on the theme of Trust in the Spirit. I wrote some new words for the Thomas Tallis canon, one of my favourite simple melodies. It’s normally sung to the words “Glory to Thee My God This Night”, and I personally know it from the ending of Benjamin Britten’s “Noye’s Fludde”. In case other Friends have a use for them, here are the new verses:
Friends, when the Love of God imparts
A truthful prompting to our hearts,
Allow the Light Within to shine
And trust the leading is divine.
To trust the Spirit we must learn
To trust each other to discern,
So leadings of the heart and mind
may, by God’s Fire, be refined.
